The wind was again the missing element on the last day of the European Championship. The fleet patiently waited ashore in the morning, and when little patches of breeze appeared on the horizon, PRO Bela Erdelyi decided to give it a try. It was another hour waiting on the water, but the wind would never build up enough for starting a race.
There were no races today at the Star European Championship. The wind was absent on lake Balaton forcing the fleet to stay ashore all day. We hope for a better day tomorrow for the final races. Prizegiving is planned shortly after getting back on shore after racing.
There were three races in light but steady easterly wind on a typical warm summer day in front of the waters of Balatonföldvar. Early morning the weather was very unpromising, the water was like a mirror. As the temperature was rising, wind arrived from the Tihany straits and lasted through the whole day.
After several hours of waiting on shore the 31-boat fleet finally left the dock and headed out to the racecourse in a very light breeze. The wind forecast for the regatta is not very promising, so the organisers chose to start race 1 in super light conditions. It was a long and slow race and as the wind died after the first round it was a race against time, too.
